Hey Nubians,

"With Science Fiction There's Endless Possibilities" - Anna Torv

I know I'm a little late on this one but I'm completely head over heels in love with the Gucci Fall 2017 Campaign. Anyone who can make fashion fun and have us use our imagination a bit more while getting dressed in the morning has a fan in me. I'm not a big Star Trek fan which is what the editorial is highly inspired by, but I do like films such as Forbidden Planet and Creature from the Black Lagoon that have also influenced this shoot. I've also always been smitten with 1950s & 1960s fashion, glitter makeup and ravishing red lips and futuristic looking hairstyles with a touch of retro Hollywood glam. I also need the glasses in this shoot in my life, they'd make a great staple to my Fall wardrobe.

Hey Nubians,

Rocking Around The Christmas Tree ...

Theres something about the 1950's and 60's that has always endlessly inspired me. The way women dressed, did their makeup, styled their hair, everything was just so perfect! They also carried themselves with so much class! No twerking with your ass out just to get on a vine comp on get likes on instagram (so sad). Anyways back to the fashion, I've even been thinking that as a 2016 New Years Resolution I'm going to grow my sassy dress and circle skirt collection. I also have a fascination for the way marketing and ads were used during those years too. I think a brand like Coca Cola or Pepsi should definitely bring this style back! It would be so refreshing.

Over the weekend I was looking at some Christmas photos and ads from the 1950s and 1960s and they very much resonate a message of love and happiness with me. Something about them is just magic... I can't really explain it but it fills me with joy. I hope these fill you with joy or at the very least inspire your outfits, hair, makeup or some cute photo shoots.

Ever since Tex Avery I love a hot girl with a flirtatious wolf.

I might have to make a DIY project out of the hat above.

Wouldn't mind living in a house like this at all. Love it!

Another pair of very cute Christmas tree hats.

Beautiful!

A little holiday boogie.

Oh Honey! you shouldn't have!

So much warmth and love. Cheers! Happy holidays to all my beautiful readers!

Hello Nubians,

“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.” ― Dalai Lama XIV

I was roaming the web over the weekend trying to get inspired and I ran into these retro Coca Cola ads. Man these are so cool! I love how their simplicity captures my attention more now than they probably would have a few years ago. They say so much to me. Of course these were simpler times too,  I'm guessing these are mostly from the 1950s-1960s. I would love for these sort of ads to make more of a comeback. I think Coca Cola should recreate these ads with real people and positive influencers. That would be awesome. New, creative minds coming together to recreate the classics which never go out of style.

The hair, makeup, and clothing in these photos is also very inspiring. I love some good ol' 1960s style. The pin curls in some of these look so on point too.

Now that we've clarified how gorgeous these women look,  I'd also like to point out that I enjoy seeing how most of these ads show people sharing a coca cola beverage over some sort of intimate moment. It sends out nice positive message of togetherness.

Enjoy a nice crisp Coca Cola every so often ;-)

Cheers to Coca Cola being around for some many years and always pushing boundaries and being creative!

Do you guys miss these kinds of ads?

Hey Nubians,

I recently bumped into this video 100 Years of Fashion Under 2 Minutes by GLAM and it's absolutely amazing. In 2 minutes, they highlight top style and trends from 1915 to today.

So if you've recreates any of these looks:  Prim and proper and Coco Chanel-ish in the 1960's, hippie chic like Farrah Fawcett in the 1970's or love some good satin and big hair like Madonna in the 1980's, this video is definitely worth a watch!

I'd like to point out that this video doesn't cover absolutely every trend from 1915 till today but I think they did a great job covering some key ones. I also enjoy the fact that they show a team doing hair and make up and dressing the model, Very Cool.

Which of the years showcased in the video is your favorite?

Hey Nubians,

Oh Glorious Monday!

I adore this cute and flirty outfit I put together. I often don't understand why people are so afraid to mix prints in their looks. I think it worked out great for me and I do it all the time.

I wanted to do something cute and flirty so the ruffled skirt = perfection. I love the layering of the ruffles and the tulle. My look has a bit of a 1950's pinup flare but with my own personal style mixed in which is colorful and funky.

The Jelly shoes are totally taking it back to the 90s. Such a big trend that has made it's way back.

Below you'll see a nice and crisp detail short of the clothing. If you pay close attention my floral top compliments the floral socks I'm wearing under my shoes. Details are always important my dears.

Wearing: gla.MAR.ous hair wrap, Forever 21 top, Go Jane shoes, Kensie earrings.

You can't actually see it here but my gla.MAR.ous hair wrap has a Cartoon Network Adventure Time print on it! So much fun!

Hey Nubians,

Yesterday I was zoning out on my tablet watching Netflix when I saw 'The Beautician and the Beast' (1997). If you're a late 80's baby like me who grew up watching a lot of television shows in the 90's, I can almost bet at some point...  Fran Drescher was your style icon! I used to love watching 'The Nanny', it was one of my favorite shows. I can still hear it ringing in the back of my ears somewhere Mr. Sheffield yelling "Ms. Fine!".

Being that's it's #ThrowbackThursday and all I wanted to share some of my favorite Fran Drescher looks.

The Beautician and the Beast'  (1997).

I created the collage above from some random photos I found. You know what I love the most about  Fran Drescher's style? The woman has NO FEAR what-so-ever. Sure, I wasn't a fan of absolutely everything she wore, but I was a fan of the majority.

I admire the fact that she always catered to her silhouette and knew how to accessorize. Her style was a mix of trends from the 1950's -1980's. Crazy prints, short skirts, tons of leopard, belly shirts, sequins galore, play suits, and more. Her hair served as an accessory itself, it always looked huge and AMAZING.

(collage above via)

Another thing I adore is that she always looked so sexy without having to bare so much skin.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed this little Flashback, till next time!

Hello my beautiful Nubian Queens and Kings,

About a week ago I was roaming through Netflix and ended up watching Romy and Michele's High School Reunion starring Mira Sorvino & Lisa Kudrow. What an awesome throwback right? Oh how I miss the girly High School chick flicks from the 90s.

Anyway, I'm not here to talk about the movie much, I'm here to talk fashion! But for those of you who are interested, The movie is about 2 girls who weren't too popular in high school and often got picked on by the popular crowd. When they receive word of a 10 year reunion, they realize that they haven't done much after the 12th grade, Being that they want to impress the "it crowd", they create a very random story for themselves about life after high school (which is totally un-true) and this leads them into a bit of trouble. It's pretty hilarious being that they rent a car pretending to own it, get cellphones somehow and start wearing business suits to look successful.

Michele Weinberger (Lisa Kudrow) makes clothing that her and Romy design together. I've gathered screen shots from the movie of some of my favorite looks to share with you all. Some of these should come back in style and be used more often!

There used to be such a big mixed of mixed prints and patterns. Even though I still see looks like this today, I wish I would see a bit more of it. Polkadots and card suits, I can dig it.

These dresses look like they're satin and well, I'm not really sad I don't see much of these anymore. However, they look like they'd make awesome super heroine costumes.

I actually really like the light blue jacket for a night life extravagant look. It has futuristic vibes flowing all over it.

More fun Jewelry! I'm totally dying over Michele's cherry earrings, necklace and ring set.

Very glad people don't wear these sorts of dresses to proms or dress up  events anymore... they could be cute without the flowers and crazy embellishments on them. Even I think simplicity goes a long way sometimes.

Definitely don't miss the over done lace and tulle look from the Madonna Like A Virgen Days.

I really wish women would have more fun with formal office attire and colors. I'm from New York and everyone is always all about black. #bleh

This look I LOVE. It's one of my favorites with the matching skirt and headband print. It looks like something out of the late 60's/70's.

Sex is always in style.

Here is the New York style I was talking about. This is from when they were faking they were successful business women. Why does success have to be related to all black all the time? I would love to see more vibrant colors.

Lastly the head scarves. I would love to see women wear these more often today. They can add so much to a look and are very elegant.

What do you think about Romy and Michele's style? What would you bring back and what are you glad is gone?
