Hello Nubians,

I found this cute little shop while browsing on instagram that I just had to share with you all! As a lover of most things pop culture or cult oddities, my jaw immediately dropped when I saw these accessories. Let me introduce you to Night Owl Designs.

Ever watch a movie or show, hear a song or play a video game that just sticks with you forever? A girly girl that loved Alicia Silverstone in Clueless or a Comic Book Geek that enjoys a little snooch to the nooch with Jay and Silent Bob? Ever stay up late nights watching Nick at Nite and being glued watching marathons of The Adams Family, The Wonder Years, The Cosby's, Rosanne, etc? Ever go crazy staying up late nights trying to beat Super Mario Brothers? You can see where I'm going with this. All of the above was pretty much my childhood.

Night Owl Designs takes popular characters or celebrities and puts them on earrings, necklaces and more. The accessories are very modestly priced starting at about $8.00 for a pair of earrings you won't find just anywhere. From what I read on the site the charms are made from ink jet shrink film and coated in acrylic for added durability. Ear wires are surgical steel and jump rings are base metal. Light, Fun and I bet they would absolutely be conversation starters.

You can find nostalgic accessories from characters such as Bevis and Butthead, Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer, Beastie Boys, Wizard of Oz, The Breakfast Club  and SO MUCH MORE.  I am completely  obsessed with what this designer is doing because to me, everything I see on the site is a classic and takes me back to a very happy place in my life.

Below check out some of my favorites from Night Owl Designs and make sure to visit their website and follow their social networks Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook. There's so much more to see.

Hello Nubians!

Feast your eyes on my latest obsession,  3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Fall 2013. This is probably if not my favorite, but surely the nicest Target designer collaboration I've seen in a long time.

3.1 Phillip Lim is highly covetable in my honest opinion and offers something for everyone. From cool looking sweats, a classy trench, sleek leather looks, and trendy dresses, he seriously has it ALL COVERED. You had to know my favorite pieces were the BOOM ones right? You just had to! I'm also a fan of the green pieces and the trench.

All in all I CAN NOT wait for this collection to be released... Counting down till September 15, 2013 where I shall be patiently waiting at a Target in NY (or if I'm working I'll have to make someone shop for me hehe).

What's your favorite look?

Hello Lovers,

Saturday at midnight I jumped on a New Jersey Transit Bus to sleep over my friend Mary's house. Mary's the owner and designer of gla.MAR.ous. Tis no secret I wear her headbands all the time. Not only am I supporting my friend, but I genuinly love what she's doing which is GREAT for me because I would hate to not love what my best friend does Haha. I also work for her on sales and social media.

Her zipper headbands are a patented design which is wearable 7 different ways and is adjustable in the back so you don't get headaches.

Below is a sneak peek of some of the Spring/Summer new designs! From her embroidered zipper headbands to her Tur-bands, they're adorable! There's going to be lace, tribals, florals, she even gets a bit patriotic! You'll have to wait and see the fnal photos.

Oh New York City, I Love you. I always meet people in the oddest scenarios...

About a week ago... I had the pleasure of meeting Rome. A talented young spirit. His designs are pretty awesome and definitely fit the NubiasNonsense aesthetic: Fun, playful, hip, happening. We met for a brief moment but the following weekend linked up at Union Square park to talk about some stuff.

For those of you who aren't familiar with ROMEiNGPANDA, you might have seen Katy Perry wear his rings at her album release party or you might have seen his bracelets going down the Victoria Secret runway. Rome and I talked about life, business and the future of his line and fashion in general.

Below please find some quirky facts he wanted to share with NN readers.

NN: Why the name ROMEiNGPANDA?

RP: The name is a simple wordplay of my name "Rome" and one of my favorite animals, Panda's. I've spent much of my life "Roaming" while eating tons of candies and the foundation/theme behind the brand is of german candy, Gummi Bears. Gummies are "Bears", Panda's are "Bears" and I wasn't going to call it RomeingGummies. "RomeingPanda" came to mind instantly, just thought it worked, and everyone like it so it was history from there.

NN: What inspired you to use gummy bears?

RP: Were they you're favorite candy growing up? I mean, why would you not use gummi bears as bling? But the idea started as a joke- just wanted to wear my own designs for a change; and crafting while eating many packs of gummies creates magic. People loved my first creations and the rise of the gummi empire began.
Yes gummi bears are in my top 5 list of favorite candies growing up, HARIBO gummi bears to be exact; I actually like any candy that's gummi. Welches fruits snacks are yummi. But I honestly eat tons of candy all the time, more than real food.

NN: Your gummy bears look so real, have you ever had a client try to eat them? What are they made out of?

RP: Yup, that's the stuff, wearable art! Well I don't know if anyone has ever tried to eat them, but people always "like" to ask "can I eat them?". All of RomeingPanda's current jewelry is primarily constructed out of Lucite.

NN: What kind of people do you see wearing RomeingPanda? What's your target audience?

RP: I see everyone wearing RomeingPanda! Panda's are pretty awesome and who doesn't Love gummi bears?? My target audience is the world.

NN: What other sort of projects will RomeingPanda be involved with that you can share? You know sharing is caring.

RP: For starters an official RomeingPanda Re-Launch coming soon- followed by everything from Apparel, Art, Candy, Toys, and a Cartoon. Pretty much RomeingPanda Everything. Please Stay Tuned!

(this Photo taken by Nikko La Mere Photography)

NN: If RomeingPanda could speak, what would it say to you?

RP: I do speak! Snarf, Snarf...

NN: If RomeingPanda had a clique, Who would be in his Posse? (characters)

RP: There actually is a clique, called PANDA Pack, which consists of:
ROME, The Roaming PANDA
Pearly, The Red PANDA
Mander, The Princess PANDA
Bubbles, The PANDA Dog
Catch them in an upcoming RomeingPanda film coming to a screen near you!

Rome's stuff is seriously dope and it's lines like his that give me that Japanese vibe I so undeniably adore. Show some love and visit his webstore here.

What do you think about ROMEiNGPANDA?

Toodles,

I've had the pleasure of exchanging a few words with Danielle Weitzler creator and owner of Ravishing Jewelry. She is a very kind, warm hearted jewelry designer who's always on the go. Despite the fact that she is indeed a busy bee, She still dedicates time to her passion for jewelry.

She sent me a nice gift a few of your were very fond of which was this Egyptian inspired necklace. I absolutely fell in Love with it.
I reached out to her for an interview so enjoy and I would LOVE to hear your feedback.

Ravishing Jewelry
1. How and Why did you start your jewelry line?
I have always been super creative, I went to school for fashion and design but I actually started making jewelry about 6 years ago. It really started because a coworker of mine was wearing a bracelet I loved and I asked where she got it and she had bought it during a trip to Europe. Clearly I wasn't going to hop on a plane and get it, so I just stared at it and thought to myself "I bet I could make that". I went to a bead store after work in the garment center and got a basic beading book and the beads I needed and made it. That's when I realized how fun it was that I could make jewelry myself and it looked like something you'd buy in a store.

From there it became a hobby and I made jewelry as gifts for friends and family. Then one day my good friend was like "Danielle why don't you sell your jewelry, you are always giving it away?". To be honest, I never really considered it. It has always been a dream of mine to own my own business, for as long as I can remember. I am also the type of person who never wants to live life wondering what could have been or saying "what if". So I figured I'd give it a shot, I started with jewelry parties and officially became a business in November of 2009.

Someone once said "if it's meant to be....it's up to me" and that quote plays in my head everyday and keeps me going!!
2. Where do you get your inspiration from?
Well it's a combination of a few things, a little bit of fashion and a little bit of tradition.
Being in NYC everyday, I submerge myself into this world of fashion on a daily basis.....I love everything about it....I could just stare at people all day long. I draw a lot of my inspiration from what I see on the streets of NYC and what I envision.
I'm also obsessed with early European and Eastern culture. From Greece to Rome to Egypt to Asia. Not only is the jewelry so beautiful, ethnic and ornate but there always seem to be a reason why a certain piece of jewelry was worn, whether it is status, symbolism, protection, etc. Everything seems to have a meaning, whether its a metal, pendant, charm or gemstone.

3. Are you a fan of silver or gold jewelry? why?
I LOVE gold! You can tell right off the bat when you see my collection. There is something about the color that makes it look rich and warm and it really compliments the colors I use in my jewelry. Going back to the whole cultural thing....gold is the more predominant metal used. I believe this is because it had to do with status, what it signifies and gold also symbolizes purity of the spirit.
4. You mentioned you are currently working at Hermes, Are you planning to make your jewelry line full time in the future?
Of course I would LOVE to do what I am passionate about as my full time job. Sitting in my studio in a sea of beads, metals and materials....designing and creating jewelry would be heaven. Realistically.... it does not pay the bills. Maybe one day my dream will become a reality, but only time will tell. Being that I have been in the luxury fashion industry for almost 12 years I have gained a tremendous amount of experience that I wouldn't trade for one second, especially now that I have started this jewelry business. I started my career in Merchandising, then Marketing and am now in the Sales and Planning side (forecasting, buying & analysis). So I'd say I know more now then ever what it takes to run a business successfully and the challenges that are faced. I am facing some myself but I know what I have to do.
5. What is your personal favorite piece in your collection? Do you have a preferred birthstone?
My favorite piece is the Sassy Tassie necklace in turquoise. Its one of my favorite pieces and I wear it all of the time. I love the color of the tassel, the turquoise scarab bead and the way it hangs it looks great paired with a white tank and jeans or a cute dress. It's my "go to" piece.
It's so funny because all of a sudden you are starting to see a lot more tassel jewelry so I'm keeping the Sassy Tassie as a part of my collection this year as well.
I definitely have preferred stones. I wouldn't say birthstones, but rather certain gemstones. I am totally into the meanings behind stones and how they have been used over hundreds of years in healing. For me, it's usually a combination of the aesthetics and the metaphysical/mystical properties of theses stones that I am drawn to. For instance, I love green aventurine. Many people mistake it for jade because of the light to medium green color. Green Aventurine is very pretty and also known for chance and luck. God only knows I need it!! I also love Amethyst, I absolutely love purple and it is known as the power stone, it is suppose to bring you stability, peace, calm, balance, courage and inner strength. Turquoise is another stone I love and it is know for grounding and protects you from negative energy.

I actually am introducing a line of Chakra bracelets that can be worn alone or stacked up. Each bracelet represents a different Chakra: Crown/Divine Unity, Third Eye/ Spirituality & Intuition, Throat/ Communication & Expression, Heart/ Love & Compassion, Solar Plexus/Ambition & Protective, Sacral/ Desire & Emotion and Base/ Stability & Vitality. They are perfect for anyone that needs a lift and positive energy.
Thank you Danielle for your inspiring words and I wish you only the best of luck! I heard from an insider who's seen her line that "Her pieces are only getting better and better"

Danielle also makes custom pieces so feel free to visit her website Ravishing Jewelry and shoot her an email.
