Hey Nubians,

It's nice to have weather where you can loosen up a bit. I think the best kind of weather you can wish for is when you're able to wear long sleeves and still show your legs without being cold = PERFECTION.

My friend Jasmin gifted me the vintage top I'm wearing which she got at Buffalo Exchange. Besides the fact that red is my favorite color, I adore the stylish gal on the top... I even have a fringe jacket similar to the one she's wearing! The fringe literally popping out the top makes it that much cooler... a great, unique find. Makes me think of Vintage Vogue.

Wearing: Vintage top from Buffalo Exchange, skirt by Hobbs, Cassette socks by Mossimo, flats by Express.

How rad are these Cassette tops? Retro vibes.

I made a fun short outfit video below. Enjoy and subscribe to my YouTube channel HERE for more.

Hello Nubians,

This New York Fashion Week was fun and busy! For the last few seasons I've been working with the social team at MADE Fashion Week therefore, I've had all access to the #MADEfw shows at Milk Studios.

I'll be making a few random posts, pulling images from my cellphone of pieces from shows and presentations I enjoyed and was smitten with.

Houghton

I felt like there was a bohemian romance going on at Houghton this season. I was completely intrigued with the oversized strip jacket from the collection. Katharine Polk really nailed it this season making pieces for women who dress for themselves and not for men. From leather to cashmere, to suede, these are pieces you will def want to swim in and absorb all the glam.

I bumped into the young Carrie Bradshaw, Miss AnnaSophia Robb and she was pretty, petite and sweet! I tapped her on the shoulder and she graciously turned around and posed for a photo.

Chromat

Everyone was super excited for Chromat by designer Becca McCharen ... especially after Beyonce got on stage recently looking killer in this designers gear. (Lets face it, all eyes have been on the Beyhive)

The room was jam packed as everyone waited for the runway to begin at The Standard. It was out of this world with intergalactic flair and a clear message saying that the Future and a new style wave is here. There was a lot of structure and architecture used to compliment feminine curves. I like to think of it as Terminator Fashion Forward.

(Above designer Becca McCharen)

INSANE.

Dion Lee

Dion Lee had a beautiful collection this season. Feminine, sexy and filled with plenty of loose silhouettes. There was a lot of different prints, cut-outs, shapes and shimmer.

If you're wondering were my lair was during New York Fashion Week, Here is is...

THE MEDIA WAR ROOM at Milk Studios for MADE Fashion Week.

My first Fashion Week outfit was Levis jeans, a vintage dress and Nike Airmax sneakers.

Cheers!

Hello Nubians,

While I attended New York Comic Con 2013, I hung out a lot at the Pammy Cakes Boutique booth. It was an explosion of cuteness, interesting clothing, accessories and I could almost bet it was absolutely the booth with the best rug in the convention ha ha (white faux fur). I forgot to mention the cool people, sweetness and positive vibes all over.

I get so excited when I see new items over at Pammy Cakes Boutique because much like the designer, I'm a big fan of Japanese fashion & trends (I'm a big fan of Harajuku and Lolita style). From the adorable characters with big watery eyes, to awesome kitten ears, earrings that look so real you want to eat them (pastries), skirts that are full and ruffled with adorable prints on them, Did I mention lots of lace?! #swoon. If you like to have a fun and colorful sense of style I recommend you head over to Pammy Cakes Boutique and take a peek now. This is the type of clothing that can brighten up your day and make you realize you are NEVER too old to incorporate a youthful style to your wardrobe.

One of the things I like most about New York Comic Con is discovering new brands, artist and writers. I happen to be friends with Pamela Jackson, designer of Pammy Cakes Boutique and I asked her if she could take a moment and answer a few questions I had. I must say, I feel like I got to know her way better after reading this myself. Learn about her interesting journey from being born into a military family to living in Japan. See what inspired this talented beauty to chase after her vision and dreams.

(The designer of Pammy Cakes, Pamela Jackson at her booth)

Kawaii!

Pamela, Myself and Jasmin from Vintage Vandalizm.

NN: Pam I love your site and how it looks like a real like little shop! Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and how Pammy Cakes Boutique came to be? (Where your from, school, what lead you to this business)

PCB: Awe, that's so sweet of you to say! First, thanks so much for reaching out!! :)

As a child from a military family, I've had the opportunity to travel to quite a few places all over the world. One of those places being Okinawa, Japan. Living there at such a young age, I believe the culture and pop-friendly lifestyle made such an impression on me that when I started my company, my tastes gravitated toward that very sweet, youthful style. With that cultural imprint, and about 5-6 years of Fine Arts classes, Graphic design courses and fashion school, Pammy Cakes Boutique was practically begging to become a reality. But it wasn't until about 4 depressing years into the corporate fashion world did I realize I wasn't accomplishing what I came to New York to do. So after about a year's time, a few life changing events, and sudden unemployment, I knew that then was a better time than any to start a company (you can only go up from unemployment! lol) That's when I began gathering items from around the house and handmade my first accessory (Mimi Bow Bracelet).

NN: What do you hope to accomplish with your clothing and/or accessories?

PCB: Because my pieces are on the very sweet side, often littered with bows, hearts, and cupcakes (my icon), my goal is to allow females of any age feel light-hearted and super girly...and most of all, Kawaii (cute)!

NN: I can see there's a very animated and perhaps Japanese inspiration behind your line... Can you tell me a bit more about that? Are there any people i.e. artist or designers who have been an inspiration to you? Where does your inspiration come from?

PCB: Oh yes, I have so many inspirations! Many don't necessarily reflect Pammy Cakes per se, but they carry the same energy. So I will only name a few... The number one inspiration is Japanese Sweet Lolita Street Fashion. I just love the frilliness and cuteness of that genre. Also Sofia Coppola's movie Marie-Antoinette. Even though this is set in the Baroque era, it carries just about that same feeling of "the world is at your fingertips, so why wouldn't you enjoy every nibble of it?" And lastly, Betsey Johnson. Even though her style is much wilder and vibrant an the sweetness of my line, she encompasses the Marie-Antoinette lifestyle (where Japanese Lolita draws inspiration).

NN: New York Comic Con is a magical place. Is this your first time being a vendor?

PCB: This is my first time vending on my own. Last year was my actual first CC vending experience, with my two good fashion friends at Gla.mar.ous and Centennial Compass. I've learned a lot about managing a table since the first time, but I still have a lot more to learn.

NN: What do you enjoy the most about New York Comic Con and would you go back?

PCB: Well, there are a lot of things I enjoy about Comic Con. But what I think I enjoy the most is the energy in the room. You have a free pass to be whomever, or whatever you want. And you're immediately accepted. Your fantasy is the reality.

NN: I've seen from your photos on instagram and facebook that you like to cosplay at Comic Con and other events. Do you incorporate your own clothing? How long have you been doing this?

PCB: I LOVE LOVE LOVE to Cosplay! Probably more than anything in the world, truthfully. I love the planning that goes into an outfit, the bumps and set-backs of solving costume malfunctions, all of it. And yes, this is quite an expensive hobby... so if I have space to incorporate a non handmade item, I will definitely bring in a piece that I can wear on a regular day. One great example is sometimes I will Cosplay as Yoko Littner from Gurren Lagann. Since her outfit consists mostly of a pair of black shorts and a bikini top, I just wore a pair of denim shorts from the past Summer season, and sewn flames on a bikini top I already owned. Add a wig (which I bought at CC), her accessories, and a handmade over-sized sniper rifle, and you've got yourself an Anime Cosplay outfit :)

NN: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

PCB: I really hate this question (lol). Only because I don't really plan that far in advance. I mean, I have a vague I idea what I want to accomplish, but I give the decisions and goals in my immediate future the most attention. That way I can keep the vague goal in mind, while I whittle away at the smaller goals, that will ultimately accomplish that goal 5 years down the line.

NN: Quick questions...

Favorite Cartoon? Hardest. Question. Ever. I love sooo many now, and practically grew up on them watching Nickelodeon. But if I were to only choose absolutely one, I'd have to say Jem And The Holograms.
Favorite Wig Color? Pink! Fo sho..
Favorite Accessory? Currently, fluffy cat ears
Vanilla or Chocolate? Chocolate
Zombies or Vampires? Oh man.. I can't choose. They're both dead, right? Heck, Vamps are so much sexier!
Pink or Black? Black :P

Thanks so much to Pamela for taking the time to answer these questions and I wish her the best of luck on her journey. I hope you all enjoyed this interview and walk away with something from it.

Hello Nubians,

Last week I was invited to the French Connection store on West Broadway for their Spring Nail Art Event featuring Ginger + Liz. There was bubbly going around and 25% off clothing.

To be honest I haven't been to French Connection in a long time so I wasn't very familiar with their current collection. I used to love rocking the tees with their signature FCUK logo once upon a time. As I strolled around the store I was quite pleased. The clothing was a little more grown and mature than I remember it being which was awesome because it caters to my taste now.

In the photo above you see some details I was fond of. So much patterns and glitz and sequins... it was HEAVENLY. My favorite dress in the whole store was the one on the lower right hand of this collage, It's short light pink with sequins and sexy as hell!! A++ in my book. The dress on the upper left hand side draws me in a bit as well because it sort of reminds me of how the NYC streets look (gravel) in a good way.
The sweater with the parrots was super cute and I was diggin the pink tones all over the store. There was definitely a lot of covetable pieces... For a social media wiz kid as myself there was even accessories for my gadgets! Always a perk.
The shoes on the lower left side are my favorite in the store. The chunky heel makes them look very comfortable and I could picture myself rocking them with some short denim shorts and a cute blouse. I'm also digging the flatforms... YES I do like flatforms haha do you?
Peep this lovely PR gal above rocking this bad ass top. It almost looks like paint chips or a piece I could imagine David Bowie wearing. Such an "it" piece.
Lastly while I was strolling around I was treated to this sweet manicure with Ginger + Liz polish. It was based off one of the prints from the collection, Tres chic!

At the end I had a lovely time and I'm looking forward to seeing more French Collection soon and owning some pieces. Cheers darlings!

I ran around a lot during NYFW. It was pretty intense. I was working very hard and although I enjoyed watching the garments come to life, I'm glad it's over and I have trends to look forward to for Spring 2012. It's a very bittersweet feeling... Watching it end, as is everything that you love and suddenly comes to a halt.

I wanted to share I few Instagrams I did during some shows and behind the scenes. Enjoy!

The Lake and the Stars SS 12

Behind the scenes of Simon Spurr SS 12

Katie Gallagher SS 12

Jeremy Scott Getting Interviewed before his SS 12 runway by Peaches for Nylon. His show was all sorts of crazy. He's always been one of my favorites.

There was good times, there was bad times, and now they're all in the past.

Last week myself and a bunch of other blogger were invited by the lovely people over at Anthropologie to their color and print event. I had a lovely time. We were accommodated with sparkling water, wine, a mini candy land type of table with all sort of treats including cake pops! (yum, I've been going through a cake pop craze) and a bunch of fall clothing to play dress up with!
Wearing Anthropologie Jacket and Scarf

Bright burnt colors might be something I'm on the hunt for this fall. This jacket was pretty comfortable and I'm a sucker for faux fur. It's truly a crime that I forgot one of the stylist's name, HE WAS SPECTACULAR! He was working it all over the room and helped me turn this scarf into a preppy bow.

The shoe above caught my eye as I walked in the room. They gave me just as much wings as Redbulls do.
More photo booth time goofing off with Jenni and Jennine.

They had a dress up competition going on. There was hair and make-up artist on hand to help you glam up your look a bit.
We should all have inspiration boards.
This necklace above is was one of my favorite items! I love horses and it's simply a beautiful statement piece that's bound to start conversation... I mean gosh, I would start a conversation with a stranger wearing this.
My Nubi-Eskimo photo taken by Jennine.

Candy land!
Another item I will keep an eye open for, a great faux fur vest. I already have one but it's white... I need a touch of brown.

What I wore you ask? Some cat eyes and a kimono.
To sum everything up, I had a nice time and Anthropologie Color and Print is a collection worth checking out.

How was your weekend?
