As The Seasons Change, So Do I.

Guys, I was starting to get so bored with the color of my hair. I let Wella come to the rescue this week and I'll tell you how. I have always had what I call "Hair Bipolar Disorder". I went through a million shades of blonde and all the colors of the rainbow. It's almost like my hair was searching for something that didn't exist. Needless to say, my hair was dry, damaged, and has lost a lot of its shine.

Hey Nubians,

"Art Is The Ultimate Way To Express What You're Feeling And Dreaming Of."

Who doesn't love art? Art can be considered a variety of different creative outlets. Many people consider fashion and their way of styling an artform. It expresses how they feel and showcases it to those around them. Others consider dance or theatre their art form. Of course, there is always drawing and painting. I LOVE to draw. I wouldn't consider myself one of the greats, but I enjoy it and it helps ease my mind. I am fascinated with murals and street art. The idea of completing a well thought out mural is probably somewhere on my bucket list. I admire artist with such vision and dedication who put their masterpieces together in the middle of the day while random strangers stroll by and just stare at them... I would assume it's not a distraction to a focused well focused and determined mind.

Hey Nubians,

Put on your red shoes, and dance the blues.
-David Bowie

I love fashion editorials from Vogue Japan almost as much as I love the color red. Red has always been a very favored color in my life, especially when it comes to clothing and makeup. Probably my second favorite after purple truly. Red lips are ALWAYS my favorite at any time of day. A nice classic red lip is unavoidable. It basically says "Hello, I'm here". I also love a nice red chunky sweater during fall/winter, I'm on the hunt for one right now.

Red is an interesting color because I relate it to both very happy and very upsetting feelings. I'd like to say I associate it with mainly positive emotions except when I feel like "I'm seeing red." then that's a whole other story.  When I googled meaning of the color red it says...

"Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Red is a very emotionally intense color. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure."

It's a great color, period. Model Agnes Akerlund looks very cute in her red outfits selected by stylist Sissy Vian. The bow on the top of her head takes me back to my illustrated Dr. Seuss books and the lovely Cindy Lou Who.

I hope this editorial inspires you if not for fashion purposes, at least for artistic ones. Cheers!

Hello Nubians,

This year I went to New York Comic Con for 2 days and it was a lot of fun, but guess what? I didn't cosplay! I know, I know, crazy town. But I had just gotten back from Hawaii and I felt kind of rushed and decided not to do it this year. I have to be honest, it hurt my heart a little. If you've seen my cosplay looks from New York Comic Con past, you'd know I enjoy dressing up very much. When I saw all of the amazing looks from various comicbooks, video games, cartoons, tv shows, movies, etc. and saw all the detailed craftsmanship and time people put into their costumes...I felt a little sad for myself for missing out. However, it still made me happy to be in everyones presence. I was cheering them on in a weird way being on the other side admiring. With all of the time that goes into hair, make-up, sewing, and making armor amongst other things such as role play, it's cool to be part of this community of people. I've always believed it's therapeutic embodying these characters whether you want to play the hero or villain. We all go through different phases in our life where we may be considered the good or bad guy as do many of these characters.

Another funny thing about not cosplaying this year is that I had so much more time to enjoy booths. I got to take my time actually talking to people and touching merchandise because I wasn't being stopped every 2 seconds for photos. I'm hoping to share a few cool places I stopped by later this week.

This year I noticed a lot of people were coming up with original characters too which I thought was awesome. Last year I did an original mashup of characters partnering with my friend Kaori. I dressed as DC Comics Wonder Woman & Two-Face. You could check it out here.

Ghost Rider, Rugrats, Cuphead, Lydia & Beetlejuice, a few Anime looks, a awesome DC Cosplayers meet-up and more. Enjoy the photos below.

Cheers!

This past weekend I attended the Liberty City Anime Con with my brother and had a nice & interesting time. I walked the halls full of colorful wigs and DIY costumes with all sorts of props and contraptions and stopped every-so-often to take some cosplay photos of some of my favorite looks from the convention. They weren't all anime, I spotted some comicbook and video game characters as well. To be honest, I only dabble in Anime and I'm way more of a comicbook and comic con person because it's what I grew up with. However, I was intrigued when I heard about this con and I figured why not attend and open up to something new? I was impressed with the dedication these anime buffs have and understand why they have such a love for the genre. I've watched a few anime films before such as Princess Mononoke,  Kiki's Delivery Service and other Hayao Miyazaki titles. I also recommend the super trippy Cat Soup anime film directed by Tatsuo Satō and inspired by the work of manga artist Nekojiru for anyone who wants to feel confused and be amazed at the same time . I've read a few manga titles. I think my first ever may have been Socrates in Love by Kyoichi Katayama in the early 2000's.

Hey Nubians,

"With Science Fiction There's Endless Possibilities" - Anna Torv

I know I'm a little late on this one but I'm completely head over heels in love with the Gucci Fall 2017 Campaign. Anyone who can make fashion fun and have us use our imagination a bit more while getting dressed in the morning has a fan in me. I'm not a big Star Trek fan which is what the editorial is highly inspired by, but I do like films such as Forbidden Planet and Creature from the Black Lagoon that have also influenced this shoot. I've also always been smitten with 1950s & 1960s fashion, glitter makeup and ravishing red lips and futuristic looking hairstyles with a touch of retro Hollywood glam. I also need the glasses in this shoot in my life, they'd make a great staple to my Fall wardrobe.

Hey Nubians,

Change is fun!

Recently I decided I needed to do something different with my hair color, hair cut, and hair style. I let it grow out for quite some time in an effort to let it get a bit healthier since it's been bleached often and was starting to get too dry. I'm going to start using hair masque more often for that issue. But anyway, I definitely needed something new... a nice change. I'm sure you get that feeling, right? When it starts to feel imperative. Even though my hair kept growing and I kept changing colors, it still felt the same for some reason.

Sometimes small changes can go a long way. Not only did I decide to get it cut, I decided to get bangs! I haven't had bangs in over 10 years! It took about 3 days for them to grow on my but now I love them!

Before
My hair was pretty faded already. I had Aveda color and Ion color on it before... the other half was just a dark brown. Even since I did my Wonder Woman Two-Face cosplay at New York Comic Con, I've kept the each half different colors look. This time I had a different muse for inspiration too.

What Was Used
My good friend Kaori did my hair. If you want something fun and you're in NY, you should reach out to her! She used Pravana, Adore, and Sparks Products. You can see the names of the hair dye below.

And then...

TAH-DAH! I love it. It's exactly what I needed right now. The photo below is unfiltered and under natural light.

It still has a bit of Batman's Harvey Dent/Two-Face inspiration, but we can all agree the color scheme is kind of based on The Joker right? Hooray!

The photo below has a bit of a filter on it but the colors are almost exactly how they look. You can also totally tell I'm starting to feel my new look.

I also really enjoy how the bangs look with a messy top know. It's perfect.

If you guys have any questions feel free to reach out!

Cheers,

Hey Nubians,

Life Is Short. Make Each Hair Flip Fabulous.

I love changing up my hair color. I feel like I've had almost every single crazy fashion color painted on my hair at some point. I'm surprised I have any hair left! My latest look done by my Amazing Aveda Artist Maria at g Aveda Salon & Spa Las Vegas is a little bit on the galaxy/nebula color side or maybe even a tiny bit mermaid inspired or The Northern Lights... Three things I LOVE! You'll see hints of lavender, silver, and green intertwined creating a beautiful color palette.

I was really into the half black, half silver look I had just previously sported, but my hair grows very rapidly and it's hard to keep up with maintenance sometimes. Maria suggested we bring down the root on the other side so it doesn't look messy when it grows out. Did I mention it feels incredibly healthy too? I personally love it! She did a great job. If you're in Las Vegas, go visit here! Below enjoy some inspiration images. Cheers!

Hey Nubians!

"Invest In Your Hair Because It's The Crown You Never Take Off"
A lot of people have been complimenting my hair lately and asking where I get my color done which is super nice. I've used a large variety of products throughout the years but lately I've been sticking to mainly Aveda products and Aveda Color. I've been getting my hair colored a nice lavender shade and dark brown by my friend/senior stylist Maria at g Aveda Salon & Spa at Downtown Summerlin in Las Vegas. She's a super sweet heart. The type that talks to you about your life, dances while she mixes color ha ha she's great.

My hair has gone through quite the journey to get to this happy place...

At some point in time my hair ended up looking like this photo below. It was a half blonde or I guess you can say blondish color and half dark brown. I was trying to slowly go platinum but decided to give up on that journey for now and focus on my hairs health after seeing some breakage.

If you want to have fun with your hair and be able to switch up 'Fashion Colors' pretty often Aveda is good because it starts fading after a few washes which either allows you to re-color it or switch to a new color. I also like that Aveda Hair Color is vegan and cruelty free. The color does not contain petroleum based chemicals which makes the water supply when you wash your hair much cleaner environmentally.

Aveda Artist mix their colors by creating a formula for it (they're like hair color scientist!) which means the color is customized just for you. It's a pretty cool concept and I love the thought of being more considerate towards the environment which this brand is VERY known for.

After a while with Maria at g Aveda Salon, TAH DAH! I absolutely love my color. There is also an insane amount of Aveda products I've been starting to use to make sure my hair slowly but surely gets to a luminous healthy state again. There's Dry Remedy, Split End Repair, Hair Masque, Color Conserve... the list goes on.

Gorgeous dimension to not make color look dull and boring.

A big perk with my color in particular is that it has faded very nicely as well. It looks like a silver kind of color now and I plan to keep it that way for a while.

Thanks to those of you have kindly complimented my hair. If you have any questions, leave them in the comment box below.
