Hello Nubians,

This year Halloween was sooooo much fun! I officially walked in the Village Halloween Parade for the first time (most years I would just go to it and be a drunk viewer ha ha). I also had a very scary costume I'm going to tell you about. For my Halloween costume this year, I was a Kuchisake-onna.

"Kuchisake-onna (口裂け女?, "Slit-Mouthed Woman") is a figure appearing in Japanese urban legends. She is a woman who was mutilated by her husband, and returns as a malicious spirit."

This costume idea came about when I have having a conversation with my sister in law Kaori about a kimono I purchased at a thrift store. One thing led to another and she recommended I be a Kuchisake-onna for Halloween. I liked the idea being that I love Japanese culture and horror movies. I couldn't wait to put it all together. This is another great tag team by Kaori and myself, she made my AMAZING Ghost Rider wig for my New York Comic Con cosplay. Below I'll tell you about what she made for this Kuchisake-onna look. If you're ever looking for someone to possibly make cool costumes, molding wigs, or even amazing hair styles for a grand event, hit her up at [email protected] or [email protected] and hopefully she'll be available. I only recommend amazing people and she's crazy talented and crafty.

Step 1
First Kaori made a Japanese Kanzashi hair piece out of 2 metal chopsticks I gave her that I had lying around. She used a belly dancing belt and ripped of some of the coins and beads to create a flower. Looks so legit! I would wear this hair accessory on any given regular day, it's very pretty.

Step 2
The Kimono I had was kind of small. So we thought it would be best that I wore it over another one, preferably a white one. The only problem is I didn't have a white kimono! Kaori said she would do her best to make one (even though she never had before) and asked me for a twin size sheet set. I found a sheet set that was off white and dropped it off at her place. Before you know it, this happened! She made this photo so you can see which pieces from the bed set were used. I love how she used the pillow case embroidery for the collar. It looks even better in person.

Step 3
Myself and Kaori both worked on the makeup. I covered myself in white face paint which you can easily find at Walgreens or Duane Reade. A good way to get this makeup to look bold faster and not so oily is to start with a primer and a layer of your own skin tone foundation. This serves as a first layer. After that, you can start applying the white face paint and it goes on smoother and better pigmented. When you're satisfied, take away any shine you don't like with a nice setting powder. I used 2 different tones of red blush for my eyes (because I didn't have red eye shadow with me) and Kaori did the crazy looking slit mouth. We both went crazy with the fake blood all over my outfit and my face and everywhere ha ha it looked so scary and it was fun to do. I used red contacts to give the look an extra demon-ish effect.

Step 4
My sister-in-law did a messy Nihongami hair style. I'm pretty sure she told me she did this once in beauty school in Japan where she obtained her license. She made it look a bit messy on purpose and pulled out some stray hairs because hello! I was a malicious spirit after all. She did a great job on the look and added some accessories to my hair she made from fabric as well as the Kanzashi.

Final Look!
After I got my hair and makeup done and got dressed, TA-DAH! This was it! The Final look.

(The flip flops also got wrapped in fabric so it looked more realistic. Plastic would have cheapened the costume)

It was soooooo scary! I'm so happy with how it came out and I'm so grateful that my sister-in-law Kaori helped me put it together. It wouldn't have looked so good and authentic without all her skills.

The type of shit that haunts you 💉🔪🔨 Featuring mummy @k3riii 😱

Village Adventures.
As I mentioned prior, this was my first time actually walking the parade. I went with my friend Mary who did a very cute DIY snow white costume, my sister-in-law Kaori who did a DIY mummy girl and my brother Dean who was a very classic/old school ghost made with a bed sheet (he was also rocking a black bow-tie.) I had so much fun walking around with my friends and seeing other amazing costumes.

Snow White (Mary) and me.

Boobs!

Snow White x 2.

Loved these playing cards.

Cyclops and The Punisher.

Kim Kardashian broke the Halloween Parade too!

Just a nice group of nuns.

Ran into these pretty ladies for a bit. Paige and Pam looking great.

Subway rides, what a drag.

After the parade we went to eat Thai food at a spot in Queens called Playground. The food was delicious, I would recommend it to a friend.

If you go, you must try the hot bread with thai custard dessert. It's so tasty and great to share with friends.

Good times, with good people. That's already winning right?

What did you dress up as this year? I hope you all had a great Halloween!

Cheers!

Hey Nubians,

Always remember you can draw inspiration from anywhere! In this outfit of that day look, you'll see little hints of Egypt and the fierce Cleopatra.

Siempre recuerde que puede inspirarse en cualquier lugar! En este conjunto, verá un poco de inspiración de Egipto y de la feroz Cleopatra.

In this little black dress look, the golden triangles on my belt from Zara remind me of ancient Egyptian patterns. The gla.MAR.ous chain headband reminds me of something Cleopatra may have worn herself, royal and beautiful.

Random touches of gold throughout the outfit where also something I focused on.

Toques de oro en el conjunto.

A little leopard never hurt nobody right?

Un poco de leopard nunca hizo daño a nadie ¿no?

Profile shot. Wavy hair and a touch of little braids. Simple and pretty hair for the Summer season.

Perfil. Cabello ondulado y un toque de trenzas. Sencilla y bonito pelo para la temporada de verano.

Hey Nubians,

You Like Hair? SO DO I.

Therefore I like doing fun things to my hair all the time like using Scünci Hair Chalk.

Sometimes when I don't do something new to my hair, I get overly bored which can get dangerous leading to hair-dye jobs and dry hair etc. These days I like to look for non-permanent solutions which is why I turned to hair chalk.

Find out how I got this cute cupcake/My Little Pony inspired top knot hairstyle with pink and purple pastel-ish colors by watching the video below. Subscribe to my NubTube HERE.

Hey Nubians,

Yesterday I was watching the Golden Globes for a bit and I noticed the ever so radiant Meryl Streep. This woman has a shining light around her doesn't she? Always glowing.

Many say she's one of the greatest film actors of all time. I myself have enjoyed all the films I've seen her in and think she's a superb actress, an icon really. However, acting isn't the reason I've chosen her as my muse today.

Some Of My Favorite Things About Meryl Streep.

  • Meryl Streep was suppose to go to Law School but her alarm didn't go off in time. She took it as a sign and instead went to Yale for Drama following her intuitions (who does that? how brave and daring).
  • She is absolutely hilarious! Even though she did most of her comedies early in her career, her humor always shines through interviews and award shows... plus she can take a joke.
  • She's done so many different accent in her movies British, Australian, New Yorker (Bronx), Italian AND I thought they were all good!
  • She played Miranda Priestly (Anna Wintour) in The Devil Wears Prada for God sake! Made me love her so much more at the time, she absolutely conquered that role.
  • She is highly known for good work ethic.
  • Never afraid to open her mouth and say what she has to say.
  • Producer Dino DeLaurentis said she was "too ugly" for the damsel role in King Kong. I believe her called her "a pig" Didn't phase her. (Obviously he had poor vision and personally disgust me for speaking about an ambitious woman in that manner.)
  • Sesame Street named a character after her "Meryl Sheep" (how awesome is that?!)
  • Oh and lets not forget that countless amounts of awards she has. Well deserved. (Academy Award, Tony, Emmy, Golden Globe and More.

These are some of my favorite facts about Meryl Streep. She by definition has everything I admire in a woman. She is effortlessly beautiful, kind, funny, and ambitious. A women who will stop at nothing to be where she knows she belongs.

Hello my beautiful Nubian Queens and Kings,

About a week ago I was roaming through Netflix and ended up watching Romy and Michele's High School Reunion starring Mira Sorvino & Lisa Kudrow. What an awesome throwback right? Oh how I miss the girly High School chick flicks from the 90s.

Anyway, I'm not here to talk about the movie much, I'm here to talk fashion! But for those of you who are interested, The movie is about 2 girls who weren't too popular in high school and often got picked on by the popular crowd. When they receive word of a 10 year reunion, they realize that they haven't done much after the 12th grade, Being that they want to impress the "it crowd", they create a very random story for themselves about life after high school (which is totally un-true) and this leads them into a bit of trouble. It's pretty hilarious being that they rent a car pretending to own it, get cellphones somehow and start wearing business suits to look successful.

Michele Weinberger (Lisa Kudrow) makes clothing that her and Romy design together. I've gathered screen shots from the movie of some of my favorite looks to share with you all. Some of these should come back in style and be used more often!

There used to be such a big mixed of mixed prints and patterns. Even though I still see looks like this today, I wish I would see a bit more of it. Polkadots and card suits, I can dig it.

These dresses look like they're satin and well, I'm not really sad I don't see much of these anymore. However, they look like they'd make awesome super heroine costumes.

I actually really like the light blue jacket for a night life extravagant look. It has futuristic vibes flowing all over it.

More fun Jewelry! I'm totally dying over Michele's cherry earrings, necklace and ring set.

Very glad people don't wear these sorts of dresses to proms or dress up  events anymore... they could be cute without the flowers and crazy embellishments on them. Even I think simplicity goes a long way sometimes.

Definitely don't miss the over done lace and tulle look from the Madonna Like A Virgen Days.

I really wish women would have more fun with formal office attire and colors. I'm from New York and everyone is always all about black. #bleh

This look I LOVE. It's one of my favorites with the matching skirt and headband print. It looks like something out of the late 60's/70's.

Sex is always in style.

Here is the New York style I was talking about. This is from when they were faking they were successful business women. Why does success have to be related to all black all the time? I would love to see more vibrant colors.

Lastly the head scarves. I would love to see women wear these more often today. They can add so much to a look and are very elegant.

What do you think about Romy and Michele's style? What would you bring back and what are you glad is gone?
