"In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you."

A few years ago, I used to practice yoga and meditate, beginning stage type of stuff. I wanted to learn how to feel 'still' in a world full of so much chaos and noise. Something funny happened to me last week that made me determined to master the art of stillness.

Hey Nubians!

"Invest In Your Hair Because It's The Crown You Never Take Off"
A lot of people have been complimenting my hair lately and asking where I get my color done which is super nice. I've used a large variety of products throughout the years but lately I've been sticking to mainly Aveda products and Aveda Color. I've been getting my hair colored a nice lavender shade and dark brown by my friend/senior stylist Maria at g Aveda Salon & Spa at Downtown Summerlin in Las Vegas. She's a super sweet heart. The type that talks to you about your life, dances while she mixes color ha ha she's great.

My hair has gone through quite the journey to get to this happy place...

At some point in time my hair ended up looking like this photo below. It was a half blonde or I guess you can say blondish color and half dark brown. I was trying to slowly go platinum but decided to give up on that journey for now and focus on my hairs health after seeing some breakage.

If you want to have fun with your hair and be able to switch up 'Fashion Colors' pretty often Aveda is good because it starts fading after a few washes which either allows you to re-color it or switch to a new color. I also like that Aveda Hair Color is vegan and cruelty free. The color does not contain petroleum based chemicals which makes the water supply when you wash your hair much cleaner environmentally.

Aveda Artist mix their colors by creating a formula for it (they're like hair color scientist!) which means the color is customized just for you. It's a pretty cool concept and I love the thought of being more considerate towards the environment which this brand is VERY known for.

After a while with Maria at g Aveda Salon, TAH DAH! I absolutely love my color. There is also an insane amount of Aveda products I've been starting to use to make sure my hair slowly but surely gets to a luminous healthy state again. There's Dry Remedy, Split End Repair, Hair Masque, Color Conserve... the list goes on.

Gorgeous dimension to not make color look dull and boring.

A big perk with my color in particular is that it has faded very nicely as well. It looks like a silver kind of color now and I plan to keep it that way for a while.

Thanks to those of you have kindly complimented my hair. If you have any questions, leave them in the comment box below.

Hello Nubians,

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a beautiful New Years Eve with your family and loved ones. Welcoming 2017 is exciting! 2016 was very strange for almost everyone I know so it's nice to feel a sense of pressing the refresh button.

I find that everyone gets obsessed with making resolutions but many times they are unrealistic and you may end up disappointing yourself which isn't fair. This year I decided to make a doodle list of '2017 Intentions' because they are all things I'm aiming to do throughout the year. I aspire to find enough time and balance to do enough of each thing but one thing I'm certain of is I will get around to all of them. This little doodle brings me peace.

Hey Nubians,

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. -Joseph Addison

We can all use a little fitness in our lives this time of year. I'm sure I'm am far from being the only one who feels like they put on a few extra pounds during the holiday season, it's so stressful! Shopping for others already gives me enough anxiety. Then calculate all the holiday cookies everyone mails out, the mixers with wine and fancy delicious drinks jam packed with calories, the eggnog, family recipes... you see where I'm going with this? Sometimes we don't have enough time for an intense workout but we can all find a few minutes to spare in our day. I'm happy to share this 6 minute ab workout Puerto Rican personal trainer Idalis Velazquez curated to help you get the six pack you've been coveting.

You can do these workouts pretty much anywhere. All you need to begin the workout is a mat, a fun - upbeat playlist and I recommend a reliable antiperspirant such as Degree which offers long-lasting wetness and odor protection with its body-responsive technology.

Enjoy your holidays and stay fit my friends. Cheers!

Hello Nubians,

Photo via

A lot of you may not know but I'm half Dominican. My father is Dominican and is actually living in the Dominican Republic right now. He lives in the capital Santo Domingo. I'm going to assume he's enjoying the tropical weather.

It makes me so happy to see that some of the ladies from one of my favorite shows Orange Is The New Black attended The Dominican Parade Gala! The all looked drop dead gorgeous. Whether they were keeping it classic with a little black dress or being a bit more colorful, their style and fashion game was on point. The beautiful Jackie Cruz rocked Maggy London’s Black Illusion Dress which is form fitting showing off her beautiful curves. I adore how the top and sleeves are sheer too, very conservative and still sexy. You can get her look: The Illusion Dress for an affordable $148.

I read the key theme to this years parade was "Educational and Economic Empowerment." Their goal is to raise $250,000 for underprivileged youth. Absolutely wonderful!

Cheers my darlings!

Hey Nubians,

Have You Ever Heard Of Crazy Cat Ladies? Well I'm A Crazy Chihuahua Momma.

If you've ever wondered what I like to do besides put awesome outfits together and geek out from time to time, well... I'm obsessed with my Chihuahua dogs. I think they're one of the cutest dog breeds out there. To me, they're the cutest. They're so small and peculiar. They kind of look like little aliens or little gremlins. So Kawaii! I spend as much time with them as possible. I also like to draw them on my spare time and love photographing them too. You could check out their instagram @BambiAndNala.

I've got her cornered 😈
A video posted by BambiandNala (@bambiandnala) on Jul 21, 2015 at 11:17am PDT

Bambi is the brown one and Nala is the white one with brown spots all over the place. I'd like to think I rescued Bambi in a way because I purchased her from a lady in Dominican Republic for $50 bucks who needed to get rid of some dogs. Dominican Republic has SO MANY abandoned dogs on the streets, it' heartbreaking. I was looking for a Chihuahua at the time and I felt like I could give her an amazing home. I got all her shots done and flew her back to NY with me. I purchased Nala from a couple in Las Vegas who also couldn't keep her. She is a Chihuahua mixed with a Jack Russell Terrier which is why she is CRAZY energetic. I love having them together because Nala pushes Bambi to be more active and exercise. Bambi is a little over 5 years and Nala is a little over 1 year old.

Sister love.

Grilling at sister then... Oh hey, hi mommy 🙈😜

Bambi and Nala get a long very well now. They play fight all day, it's funny and cute. A regular day of me and my babies consist of me waking up, making sure they have fresh water and hard food available to them through out the day. Then I make sure to give them appropriate portions of wet food twice throughout the day. I also walk them where there's a lot of grass so they can smell things and exercise. Whenever I'm home they love to cuddle next to me while I'm working or watching TV. They also love the warmth! Laying under pillow and blankets is one of their favorite things to do.

I also find it funny that most chihuahuas think they're so much bigger than they are. They are VERY protective of their owners and even though they are small, they act like they're Pitbull's. They act very tough and never back down. Total napoleon complex. I'm still working on correcting some of their behavior. I take a lot of tips from The Dog Whisperer and some of his tricks work very well.

Super Bambi

Got a secret can you keep it?

Rough day at the office.

A rose by any other name...

Bath time.

At the end of the day my chihuahuas make the best companions and I love them so, so very much. They bring so much joy to my life and I find qualities in them I still can't find in some people.

I've never been attracted to cats. A lot of that probably has to do with the fact that I'm highly allergic to them. So allergic in fact that if I'm around one for too long I'll probably pass out. I do enjoy watching an occasional funny cat video though... I think they're pretty funny critters.

Are you a dog or cat person?

Cheers!

Hey Nubians,

There's so many fun and amazing things about having a fashion blog!

I wanted to do a Nubia's Nonsense style #throwback post and talk a bit about my blogging journey. Through my fashion blog, I've met SO MANY people that I can call friends today and I've also gotten so many opportunities. I've been fortunate enough to get job offers, work with great brands, do a bit of styling and consulting and more. These are all things I never expected when I started my blog years ago. I started blogging simply for fun and because I genuinely believe that the way I dress cheers up my days. I wanted to share something that gave me so much joy with the world.

I have to be honest however, somewhere along the years... probably around the time blogging became so monetized, I lost a lot of passion for it. Things started seeming more and more fake and it also appeared people were doing things ONLY for money or perks. Don't get me wrong, I think making money off your blog is GREAT, amazing really... BUT you shouldn't lose your aesthetic along the way and represent things you don't even believe in. It's a fine line and I myself have tried my best to stay true.

Lately however, and most importantly... I am re-finding my love for posting and I'm planning to change my blog up a bit. It's important to remind yourself when you're going through a slump that you started doing this with a purpose, and you have to redefine your vision and make it fun for you again. I'm going to add more lifestyle, art, mood boards and videos. It's hard to explain the picture in my head but I'm really excited to watch it come to life. I want to focus on connecting with people that love what I love and make friends with similar interest all over the world. That's what it was always about, LOVE & CONNECTING & POSITIVE VIBES. I'm very happy with the things I've been planning lately. I hope you'll all love it too.

Another super fun thing about having a fashion and style blog is that you'll find that when you look back, you often re-inspire yourself. Things like "Oh, That was a cute outfit" or "Why don't I do that anymore?" "I kind of loved my hair that way" etc. I also think about things in the future such as "If I ever have a daughter this is like the ultimate mood board to show her".

Anyway, I've gone through so many style and hair transitions it's bizarre. I'm so content about it though. I get to look back when I'm older and feel like I was fearless... what a good example to give other young women right?

I hope you've all enjoyed looking back at some of my fun outfits. For those of you who also have a blog and are going through a slump, I hope you get out of it soon! Maybe I'll make a post featuring some tips for getting out of a blogger slump soon.. I think I have pretty good ones ;-)

Cheers!

Hey Nubians,

I wanted to share a video with you that I just uploaded on YouTube about dry skin problems and the dry skin remedies I use on my own skin.

I will be sharing the best skin care products that work for me. Keeping your skin moisturized during the Spring and Summer is SooOoOOooOOO very important. It's important that you look into the right skin care cream and skin care products in general. It is so key especially in young women's lives. Very dry skin can often make you feel like you have a clay mask on your skin or your skin is cracking... nobody wants that!

From Coconut Oil, To Avon ANEW products, To a Vicks humidifier and more, I will be sharing some of my secrets. Moving to Las Vegas from New York City was absolutely a reality check for my skin being that it's so dry in Vegas. Watch the video below and figure out what dry skin products may work for you!

Remember to stop by my YouTube HERE and peep all the post I've been putting up lately.

Tengan un bello fin de semana mis queridos amigos. Recuerden pasar por mi pagina de YouTube AQUI para ver todos los videos que recién tome.

Hey Nubians,

I love instagram and update it all the time! I wanted to share a few of my recent photos with you and let you know what I've been up to.

Sometimes when I post on my blog, it's hard to really fit stuff certain things in my post. For example, all the restaurants I go eat at, all the pretty cocktails I inhale, my adorable chihuahuas, My life living in Las Vegas now and my life in New York City... It's too much! These instagram round-ups are perfect for sharing much more. You can follow me on instagram HERE.

Here we go!

First off this was on New Years Eve in The Sugar Factory in The Paris Hotel in Vegas. It's a Peanut Butter Martini and it's absolutely beautiful and delicious... did I mention it taste divine too?! It contains Three Olives Chocolate Vodka, peanut butter and Toschi Nocello Walnut Liquor.

A video posted by Nubia Mejia (@nubiasnonsense) on Jan 1, 2015 at 12:46am PST

Cool Little video I made of The Strip on New Years even using Hyperlaspe. I really like the app, want to use it more for clothing and makeup this year.

I went to eat at BLT Burger at the Mirage Casino Hotel and it was delicious too. The Nachos rock as an appetizer and the burgers are mouth watering. I think this burger blueprint they give you after you eat is cute and spunky.

Tis I on Christmas eve with my cute Santa Claus headband on.

My friend Jasmin gave me this cute POP! Comic bubble bag for Christmas... how great it is?

The 2 current loves of my life, On the left Nala and on the right Bambi.

This was my first selfie of 2015, woooohoooo. Rocking my Boy Meets Girl x Roman Luxe ring.

I got this cute coffee mug at Kitson at The LINQ. I am obsessed with it. #EvilGenius #Bwahahaha

Basically. #BackToTheFuture

Shopping at the Town Square Mall.

The ceiling at the Venetian Casino Hotel... stunning.

Lastly me at the Rhumbar at The Mirage drinking a "Latin Manhattan" and smoking a Berry Mint Hookah.

So much fun doing all of these things! What have you guys been up too lately? Happy New Year.

Hey Nubians,

"Sometimes I just need a good photo to make me want to switch up my style..." -Nubia

Recently I was looking through a lot of William Eggleston photographs and felt really inspired. I like to think of him like a O.G street style photographer. The difference between him and a lot of street style photographers I see now-a-days is Eggleston wasn't looking for someone dressed ridiculously in feathers or outrageous hats and costumes, he wasn't looking for the most amazing landscape views either... he focused more on the beauty of boring things that we don't see many times, things we tend to overlook.

I believe his true talent is taking something that looks like nothing and making it a beautiful photograph.

He captured all sorts of people in very natural and unplanned situations and makes it all come to life. I feel as if all the photos I've posted speak to me... there's a hidden story behind all of these and it makes it fun to look at because I create my own story. It becomes a fun creative exercise.

Eggleston spent over 50 years photographing his town of Memphis, Tennessee.  I've heard Memphis is not the most exciting place ever, but through his eyes I wouldn't mind visiting at all.

Another pretty interesting fact about his photography is a lot of it looks like it could have been taken around the 1920's but it's not. Explore your neighborhood! There are a lot of preserved places and you never know what beautiful treasures you may discover.

I hope you enjoy his photography as much as I do. It has a very retro/vintage vibe and looking at these makes me want to go through my closet and explore my wardrobe. Look up William Eggleston for more intriguing and fascinating photography.
